Office for Divine Worship and the Catechumenate
The Office for Divine Worship and the Catechumenate is a service and resource center for the liturgy, for liturgical catechesis, and for Christian initiation.
Realizing that adult formation and good liturgy foster and nourish faith, the services of Worship and the Catechumenate seeks to promote the liturgical and spiritual life of the people of God in the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois.
The Office for Worship and the Catechumenate [OWC] now offers material at discount from two publishers to tax-exempt institutions in the diocese.

- You must use one of the electronic RTF forms. First, save the chosen form to your computer.
- Complete the needed information on the saved form. Then save the completed form for your computer and attach it to your e-mail.
- E-mail completed form to . Put “FDLC order” or “LTP order” in the e-mail subject line.
- Publisher drop-ships order to your address.
- OWC bills you at cost plus shipping. Pay within 15 days – send copy of invoice with check.
- Historically late payers will need to pre-pay orders before it will be placed.
- Returns must be pre-approved with OWC – an additional shipping charge is added.

CATECHUMENATE (RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS)
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the sacramental process for the pastoral formation and guidance, aimed at training new members in the Christian life.
These sacramental norms apply to the unbaptized who are 6 or 7 years of age and older. They apply to the baptized uncatechized Catholics who are 6 or 7 years of age and older who were baptized in infancy but celebrated neither Confirmation nor First Holy Communion. And they apply to the baptized Christians who are 6 and 7 years of age and seek to be received into the full communion of the Catholic Church.
These norms have been in place since 1988 in this diocese and in all the dioceses of the United States of America.

Election & Call
Diocesan Rites of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion are celebrated at the beginning of Lent each year in the Cathedral Church of the Immaculate Conception. These diocesan rites are on the usual first weekend of Lent. The Rite of Election will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20 for parishes within a 50-mile radius of Springfield and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 21 for parishes outside a 50-mile radius of Springfield. Attendance is limited to the catechumens (the unbaptized) and their sponsors, one parish representative, and two guests per catechumen. Candidates (those who have already been baptized) will not take part in the Call to Continuing Conversion this year. Facial coverings and safe distancing will be required. Three Scrutinies
Wading Deeper
Wading Deeper is the annual summer workshop to engage catechumenate ministers in a deeper immersion in the vision, method, and ministry requires by the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults for parish and diocesan ministry. It is cosponsored by the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois and the Diocese of Belleville. Credit is granted in the catechist certification process by each diocese.

Communal Penance Liturgy in Lent
Bishop Lucas issued a Pastoral Letter on Reconciliation, “We Implore You in Christ, Be Reconciled to God,” at the First Sunday of Lent 2008. The following items were prepared in the first days of Lent by the Office for Worship and the Catechumenate. They are offered to help priests and parish ministers prepare for a Communal Penance Liturgy in keeping with themes of the pastoral letter and faithful to the norms of the Rite of Penance, Chapter II.
This Mid-February 2008 mailing is sent electronically to the Monthly Mailing list. Paper copies will also be mailed to priests in the diocese.
